Fantastic piece of skilled pottery making to shape and fit a screw lid to a jar. These precious pot bellied screw lid pots were used to collect treacle or molasses which was then used for the weekly gingerbread cake or to preserve food - part of the history of the sugar trade and therefore part of the historic period when slavery was finally abolished.
